Came across this news article. Sounds like he wouldn't have been hurt if he had been wearing a seatbelt (with ROPS of course).
Man run over by lawn mower at golf course

BROOMFIELD, COLORADO - A man working on the Omni Gold Golf Course and the Camden Apartments was severely injured Monday morning by a lawn mower.

North Metro Fire and paramedics arrived at the course near the 6th hole just before 10 a.m. and found a man who had been run over by a riding lawn mower.

Officials say the man was on the riding lawn mower when he went down a steep embankment and fell off his seat. The mower then ran over him with the blade still cutting.

Before paramedics arrived, employees and nearby golfers helped the man at the scene. Pieces of flesh were spread over 10 yards and his left hand was recovered from a nearby tree. The man was then taken by AirLife to Denver Health Medical Center to be treated.

Details about his current condition and identity were not immediately released.

Yea, kinda strange... Mine doesn't have a seat belt either and as soon you get off the seat, the engine shut off as a safety measures...

Well, he could have fallen off his seat and left his Butt on the seat, that can happen right?

LMFAO :D

Thank God my Butt is attached to my body, I would have left it somewhere or on a seat somewhere long ago... LMFAO

Safety switches in seats can be disabled with very little effort. Perhaps somebody circumvented this one as a "time saving" measure.

If he was mowing the greens, I am sure it wasn't a small riding mower as the news story implies. Usually very large (wide cut) machines.

This will probably be an OSHA type matter since it appears it was work related. If any safety equipment was removed/disabled heads will roll and there will be a huge lawsuit... probably settled out of court.

That was initially my thinking as well, but in retrospect it might have been a small riding lawn mower if they used one for tight spots where using the larger ones wouldn't be practical or maybe even possible but the statement that "pieces of flesh were spread over 10 yards and his left hand was recovered from a nearby tree" lead me to believe it was a larger more powerful unit. It really could have been either.

Back mid October a bloke I know was getting his tractor/mower ready to go and mow his neighbours place when he got his shirt caught in the PTO shaft. As he was being dragged downwards he put his left arm out to save himself, straight into the blades of the mower. The mower kept chopping his arm to just past the elbow.

He had already lost his left leg just below the knee in a well drilling accident some years before.

Two weeks later the neighbours saw him driving up the road !!!

He's a tough old ba**ard
