Stayed glued to the ABN/CBN TV channel over the weekend as Manila (Philippines) had the most rain fall in over 40 years. WOW, so much destruction by floods and mud slides. Death toll is over 140 and climbing. All my inlaws are fine and dry but did loose power for two days. We get Philippine channels thru directTV so the wife can keep up with back home news and soaps.

Mark, I read a news story about that this morning. Glad your inlaws are safe. Those of us who have not been through major flooding, fires, tornados, and hurricanes can be grateful for that, and can only imagine how devastating it has to be.

From what I see on Google Earth, Manila and the surrounding areas look to be quite flat, and to the north along the coast is that area a flood plane? I suspect that area would be hit hard.

There is an area named Barangay Binuangan were a river flows out to sea, I can see around a hundred or so V shapes in the river that measure around 50 to 80 meters in length. I'm assuming they're fish traps. Do you know anything about that.

My girlfriend is from Cebu where most of her family is. They are all fine although they lost some crops. Her brother and his family are in Manila and although they sufferd a little water damage they to are all ok. Not much you can do to help them given the distance.
