I find the recoil starter on my BCS735 with ALN330wb engine retracts the cable very slowly. Would a cleaning, oiling or tightening the spring help this? Any suggestions on how to do this?

Also, the cable has eaten through the faierlead (part #108.022). I'm going to rotate the starter housing, raising the faierlead to a position where I don't have to be on the ground to pull the cable without cutting into it, but I haven't found a source that might have this part. Does anyone know where I can locate one?

As I run my hand down the cable, I find a few spots where it appears that a wire has broken in the cable, so it isn't completely smooth there. Does this increase the wear on the faierlead, or should I just wait to replace it until the cable is truly frayed or broken?

I tore apart this recoil starter to see what I have. I avoided removing the spring, as I can't see an easy way to reinstall it. If any of you have taken out the reel with cable and spring, please share how this is done. I sprayed brake cleaner down inside until it ran out clean. As you can see, there are 3 parts that could be replaced. The cover has one of its 3 tabs for the dogs broken off, but it seems to start fine with just two. The plastic shim/bearing that fits around the center post is split. The outside cable guide, called faierlead in the parts list, though different than the diagram I previously posted is worn through, but I turned it to give it more life (if I can't find a replacement). It appears to just snap in. Here are the photos:1206141313a.jpg1206141314.jpg1206141315.jpg1206141316.jpg1206141316a.jpg

What engine is in it. A lot of engine mfg. use the same recoil. Kind of looks like a japan design.

As I stated above, this is an Acme Motori ALN330wb engine. The owner's manual states this:

Even they don't recommend taking it apart, but I was just checking to see if anyone has a trick for doing this (for cleaning purposes).
