Price Check March 2008 BX2350 Weight Pricing

Just left the dealer in central Iowa with the following pricing:

BX2350 front weights:

1. 55lb suitcase weights - $60/EA
2. Bracket - $88
3. Bolt sets (1 per weight) - $6/EA

Rear wheel weights:

1. Plastic, 53lbs each - $32/EA plus freight
2. Bolt sets (1 per wheel) - $6/EA

This is quoted before any negotiations...

I have the "hunk o' metal" rear wheel weights and think they'd be preferable to plastic ones. I've bumped them up against several things and would worry that the plastic ones would have a hole in them by now. Of course the plastic ones are probably prettier.

My dealer included them with my tractor as a no cost line-item (I'm sure they're in the cost somewhere...) when originally purchased. Took them off for a (very) short time and hated the feel of the tractor. Too light. Make a huge difference, especially with the FEL.

Don't know that I'd fiddle with suitcase weights. I just go get a half scoop of clay when I want to get some extra weight in the front. With mechanical advantage an all, that 150# half shovel of clay hanging in the front of the FEL is probably equivalent to 8 suitcase weights, if not more.

Have you considered having the wheels loaded? My dealer recommended that over wheel weights and included loading the tires in the sale price. They use some new enviromentaly friendly citrus based stuff instead of the traditional Calcium Chloride.

Dealer thru in steel wheel weights (75#/whl). They work great. I only need more ballast (bh) when fully loaded with stone.

I was just pricing to check out options. Weed mowing in timber area isn't easy with FEL, so I drop the loader before working in the trees.

I've had plastic weights on other vehicles, and they hold up surprisingly well. I'm also watching for cast weights.

The going rate for cast iron weights is in excess of $1.00/lb. Used cast iron weights usually sell for about $0.50/lb if you can find them.

You may want to consider Rim Guard. It is the latest thing in liquid ballast. It's made from sugar beets, is nearly as heavy as CaCl, non corrosive, and, of course, non freezing. It is expensive, though. I think it's about $3.00/gallon.

Yeah thats the stuff they put in my BX...I did hear you still need to be careful with it because it will burn your skin.

My B2710 took 19 1/2 gallons and it was $2.11 per gallon, so for a hair over 40 bucks I got the ballast I need. So if your interested in filling your tires, that's the way to go (IMHO)
