Marital harmony question

Bill,

she approached me with the idea of going ahead and buying a digital camera, since I added some additional equipment...should I encourage her to buy a $500 camera?!

It sounds like you finally got your wife on your side. I recall an earlier post of yours about a month ago in which you cited the reservations your wife had about you even buying a tractor. Sounds like you got her hooked. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif This sounds a bit like my wife. When she found out I put a deposit down on the 4710, she nearly flipped but shortly thereafter she was the one insisting I get the BuckTop canopy...so, I had to add that to the shopping list. Now, she's thinking of all kinds of "Things To Do" with the tractor. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I say go for the camera...you may not have another chance like this but you may have to borrow from the jazz piggy bank. I've yet to get to that point. I asked my wife about it about a week ago...she said what do you need that for. I then felt I shouldn't push it too much. After all I just bought a $35K tractor package. Maybe, later in the summer I'll talk to her again about a digicam. Until then, I'll have to use primitive methods of scanning 35mm prints on the scanner, copy them as jpg attachments, then post.

I don't know she's spending a lot of money for something that would fit in the palm of her hand. If she does though it sure would make it easy to post some pics of the new tractor.

.........am I hearing the "it takes one to know one" syndrome being exposed?

'twas never hidden, BlurryBill. In several other posts I, like so many others here, have bared my blatant ignorance and character foibles to the risks of chastisement in search of advice, knowledge, reasoning, balance and ah yes, parenthetically, that oh-so-important marital harmony.

As for your post, I have to admire a MH professional who may secretly recognize that TBN is cheaper (and far more fun) than therapy and perhaps even more effective at building confidence, support and rationalization for such a significant decision. (Honey, ALL the TBN experts said ____is a must-have!!!).

In the lonnngggg run, if TBN assists us in defining and acquiring the tractor of our dreams, with spousal acquiescence (manipulated and/or begrudging, or not), while concurrently garnering approval for our most brave move to spring for such "critical necessities", it is most worthwhile, neh?

Clearly some take longer to research and process decisions than others. Perhaps your patient approach (did I hear you say 3 years?) is strategically efficient, like water dripping on stone.

Whatever the case may be, emboldened by your and other TBNer's successes, I think I'll add both the 4n1 and the grapple (along with the Dozer as Charlie suggests) to my list. Then, if I have to negotiate backwards, I'll nonetheless end up both suitably outfitted and well pleased while articulating (and oscillating) my new Power-Trac over hill and dale, contently upending locust, poplar and sour gum in favor of fruit trees, wasabi japonica and, of course, fine varietals.

Enough with the analysis paralysis syndrome. Concede the camera AND the treadmill....but don't give in without hand-wringing, frowns and promise of future concessions. (Can you spell MULE?)

Wasabi,

.....Huh? Oh, I think I get it, nevermind. Man, you'd be fun at a picnic, I'll bet.

Update: Had to let you all know that my wife is now the proud owner of a Sony DSC-F707 5 megapixel camera. (see dpreview.com for the most comprehensive reviews of digital cameras I've ever seen).

Good news: If you bring in internet ads to most Sears stores, they will pricematch; purchased the $999 camera for $630 this way.

Better news: Still married and my partner is excited about the new tractor arrival and "feels my pain" over the fact that delivery is delayed.

Still, my favorite post on this thread dealt with the increasing cost of fuel and how much could be purchased in place of the camera.

Well guys, it worked for me. Good luck!

...I'm glad that I saw the help wanted sign at McDonalds.

I can hear it now... "Do you want fries with that, and tell me.. how do feel about your mother?" /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Hope you enjoy your new toy!!

Best,
Bob

Very clever, Bob, and don't think the thought hasn't crossed my mind! We haven't communicated for a while. Hope that 4300 is working out well and that you and yours are enjoying the spring.

Bill
