Hello.

Anyone help with small problem?

I have a Kioti DK50 and was using it with a topper that I have had for a number of years when the sheer bolt snapped -unreasonable rock involved-checked and tightened blades under topper and replaced sheer bolt -got 100yds before it snapped again and again. The tractor is 50hp; the topper is 5foot with a single arm underneath carrying two rotating blades -each of which can swivel freely. With my previous tractor -20hp this little topper worked on the same ground with no difficulty.

Many thanks in advance.

Mark:

Welcome to TBN :D! I assume your "topper" is a rotary cutter. There is a lot of PTO HP turning that driveline than with your 20 HP tractor. I keep thinking there is too much power and/or your shear pins are too soft with the DK50. Are the blades seriously chipped or the single arm blade carriage bent- throwing everything seriously out of balance? Jay

thanks for welcome and the prompt reply. Yes, it is a rotary cutter. Blades and bar are in good condition. Blades replaced last year. Arm is straight so maybe just down to the strength of the sheer pins I got as replacement but the pto shaft is now also extended by about 4inches as its a bigger tractor. Would that matter?

I am no engineer, but I do not think that it should matter since the sliding (male/female) drive lines are still engaged. I would try a stronger shear bolt in a nonobstructed area filled with "unreasonable" rocks and give it a spin. Jay

PS: I like your term "unreasonable" :D. I have met a few in my life . Jay :)

Grade 5 bolt perhaps?

No slip clutch? If not, what RPM are you engaging the PTO at--with the extra HP you may be snapping the bolt when you engage and it may not fall out for 100 yards??

Thanks for those contributions. I shall get grade 5 bolt for starters! As for revs when engaging pto, my tractor has 540 only and I would usually engage pto in middle gearbox in first at low revs. Will report back when bolt fitted. Litttle trip required.
