I received my Markham tooth bar after a 3 week wait. I washed the bucket in preparation for the tooth bar installation. I attempted to install it and as you might have already guessed by the title... the tooth bar was too long. I quickly ordered another one from Markham with the correct length. I put the one I had on ebay starting bid at $1 with no reserve. Since it was a common size (59 1/2") I thought someone might buy it. On my way back from a trip to town, I stopped at the local welding shop and explained what happened. The owner of the shop told me to bring the tractor and toothbar by and he would see what he could do. I quickly cancelled my ebay auction which didn't have any bids after about 2 hours. I drove the tractor to the welder.. about 1 mile down the road. He was able to remove one of the end teeth and mounting bar and cut about 1/2" off the main bar and reweld the tooth and mounting bar back. He installed the bar and welded on the reinforcing plates and also welded on 3 bucket hooks with and a piece of steel to beef up the middle hook. In less than 2 hours my tooth bar and 3 new hooks installed for $100. I cancelled my order with Markham for my 2nd tooth bar. I got to use the tractor with the tooth bar for about 1/2 hour before a thunderstorm moved in. What a big difference it makes with the tooth bar installed. I highly recommend Markham welding... just give them the right measurements for a smoother install.

More detail please, just 'what' is the difference ?

I'm on the edge of getting one myself, so I won't need much of a push. ;)

It will cut thru hard dirt like a hot knife thru butter.

LOL the difference is like eating a steak with your false teeth out. Now you can actually get some digging done

It's the old adage, "Measure twice, cut once". In this case, measure twice, order once. :)

I'm jealous. I went to pull the trigger on a JD toothbar the other day and then I found out it was not compatible with a bolt-on cutting edge. It turns out that a bolt-on cutting edge compatible toothbar runs in the $500 range ... ouch.

Whoa, back the truck up, is that a markham toothabr with slots cut in the mounting holes? Is that something special or has he begun making them that way? My Markham has no slots.

Oh, fantastic accessory for sure.

so far I've moved some brush, uprooted a few small bushes, and moved some top soil. All easier with the tooth bar. The loader bucket seems to hold a bit more also.

Highbeam- my Markham TB doesn't have slots either.

Essentially the same thing happened to me but by only about a 1/4 inch. I ended up grinding away the edges of the toothbar by about 1/8 inch in eiither side to make it work. the install/removal is still a pain so, unless I am working on concrete, the TB stays on.

Highbeam - the bar came with slots. it got bent during shipping. I was wondering how much force it took to bend it.
