Several years ago I had pretty much stopped deer hunting even though I'd been doing it all my life. First with my Dad, then with my son. Well, Dad has Alzheimers now and my son has lost interest and I've killed plenty of deer so I went maybe once or twice a year even though I was on the property every other weekend or so.

Then my daughter wanted to start deer hunting so now I'm hunting with her. Last year she got her first buck, a spike, and then later got a fair sized 8 pointer. We've been about four times this year and here is what she has gotten so far:

Nice buck!. I'm in the same situation... my 16 year old son has no interest in hunting or going to the farm on the weekends but I consider myself very lucky. My 14 year old daughter loves it and we just bought her first rifle. She travels with me 100 miles one way most weekends and we occasional spend the night. We built a cabin with all the amenities. The only thing that would make things better is if the wife and son would join us but not counting on it. We've been doing this for about 4 years now, creating great memories and we are very close. I wish I had the words to tell her just how much it means to be with her on our weekend outings. She has already asked: Daddy who gets all your guns when the time comes. Don't really want to answer that question so I tend to mumble a little and continue what I'm doing and hoping she want continue with the question. We go ridding the 4 wheelers and late at night we sit out in the fields and watch falling stars. She is a very special child and makes her daddy proud. Sorry, my emotions get the best of me with this subject. Make memories and take lots of pictures. Enjoy her company

Last year's BP. There are enough men that are more concerned about what hair product they're using than the moon cycle. It's up to us remaining - and sporting - men to bring women out to the field or our sport is doomed.

Lori's first deer. Note the highly customized BP, thank you very much.

N80, you're a good father.

Congrats to the ladies for bagging some nice bucks. I think it's fantastic that the gals get out in the deer woods! I've heard more than one person say that women are better shots than men. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Bob, no need to apologize, I know exactly what you mean. Exactly.

brewdog, she is shooting extremely well. Three of the four deer she has had a gun rest, but the first one in the pictures above she shot off-hand at 80+ yards. Not amazing by any stretch, but not bad for her third shot ever at a deer. And the little .308 she is shooting is just dropping them in their tracks.

I have always heard that women are better shots because they don't bring any preconceived notions about how it is supposed to be done. You tell them what to do and they do it. Guys, like me, usually think we know how to do something even if we've never done it. We have to get over our own mistaken approach before we can get down to doing it right.

Western, she does not mind getting her hands dirty. She insists on helping me with dressing the deer. She wanted to do the second one all on her own....but Dad got impatient and had to help out.

Bullbreaker, she asked me about mounting the first one and I told her she needed to get a bigger one. The second one was bigger, but I told her it needed to be even bigger. Now I feel bad about it, I probably should have got the second one done but dang it is expensive! And in truth, these were nice deer, definite shooters, and above average for around here....but not by much.
