Hello all, as with many I've been watching this forum for a while and have gleaned more advice and ideas than I ever would have expected. But since I'm sort of the passive, sit back and wait type I've never posted...

Now I'm in the hunt for a tiller for my YM 155D, 15 hp Yanmar. I've been looking for tillers in my neck of the woods (Bozeman, Montana) for over a year with no success so since my Dad lives in Portland Or. and travels this way to see his grandson regularly I expanded my search to Portland. Found a Maschio Model A 100, supposedly a 40" unit. Most of my research points at this being the perfect tiller for me, but the only problem is I can find no info on such a model on the net. I'm curious if anyone has experience with or knowledge about this tiller and knows it's weight. Also do you all feel that the 15 hp 155d would both lift it and run it. We have 3 acres, mostly clayey loam (mix of sand and clay) with potential for 3"+ river rocks thrown in here and there. We will be tilling large gardens (a few plots 20' by 100' or so) but in the end will place the gardens on the best soil, avoiding the rocks in the future but will likely run into them a bit as we learn the place.

Thanks in advance for any input, and thanks to everyone who has unknowingly helped me already!

Brian

Go to www.forddistributing.com/resources/mfg_show.php/maschio/80 for an on line manual. Hope this helps. Says it weighs 220 kilograms which I think translates to about 485#. Sounds like a good match to your tractor. The manual says 25 t 30 hp. That seems extreme to me. I use a Yanmar RS1300 tiller (51") with a Yanmar YM2002D 24 hp and it does fine with it.

Brian. I've run a maschio 40in rotary harrow on my Yanmar 186D (18hp) with no worries. The harrow would be a fair bit heavier than the tiller.

I did have to add about 100lb of front weight so that I wasn't seeing so much sky when turning uphill.

Thanks for the link winston1, very helpful! actually Dad just picked up a Howard HR3, 42" which weighs about 140 pounds less. I'm sure the extra 140 lbs of love in the Maschio will keep it running longer but I was worried that my little machine would strugle with the weight; 485 lbs has got to be near max for the 155! Now I have to wait until spring.....

Thanks again for all the help!

Italians make very good and moderately priced tillage and cutting equipment. You might consider looking for a similar sized Caroni tiller which is sold by AgriSupply. Caroni and Maschio are competitors kind of like Woods and Landpride are here. Both excellent and often rebadged in this country.
