Maschio Finish Mowers?

Does anybody know anything about the Maschio rear discharge finish mowers? I am trying to decide between Maschio, Midwest, and Landpride for a 72" rear discharge mower. I have not seen the Midwest in person, but it looks good in pictures. I have not seen the Maschio in person or in pictures, but I hear they are good mowers. Any thoughts?

If you look at the thread here titled "Cool link to all those obscure Italian equipment," you'll be able to find Maschio equipmnet. While I haven't used either, I've seen both tillers and finish mowers from them. They look like they're well made and very popular in this part of the country. The guys I've talked to that own them swear by them.

I have owned a 60 inch rear discharge Maschio finish mower for about 3 years. I have had no problems with it. I mow about 4 acres at least once a week sometimes twice. Since I live in the south I usually mow until December and start again in March. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've had a Jolly 150 (5' deck, rear discharge) for about 5 years now. Does a fine job and is built well, except....

the darn thing has an issue with the threads on the 3 spindles that hold the blades on. The blades are not "keyed"; in other words, the 18mm fine pitch nuts that hold the blades on tend to strip the spindles!

Those beauties are over $100 each at your friendly local Maschio distributor. I don't care for this design at all and I sure don't enjoy getting reamed at the dealer.

Won't be getting another one of these.....problem is, the gear drive and deck are holding up so well that I won't have any need of getting rid of it for some time to come....live and learn, I suppose.

I have a 72" Landpride finish mower that literally has thousands of hours on it with zero problems. It is not even beginning to show any wear on the spindles or any of the wheel bearings. Other than eventually wearing out a belt or a set of blades, I think it is a lifetime unit.

That being said, I bought a Maschio 72" tiller a couple of years ago. I'm really impressed with it's build quality and performance too. If the Maschio finish mowers are anything like their tillers, I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

As far as I'm concerned with LandPride finish mowers, if someone has an issue with one, they must be one of those guys who don't own a grease gun. I'm serious. Other than greasing each fitting every 6 hours or so, I've done nothing to my LandPride except mow, mow, mow. I had a JD brand prior to the LandPride and it was not built nearly as well.
