In the middle of replacing a leaky rear PTO seal and ran into a few questions. The new seal is a little different than the old seal, but it shows to be the correct part. The old seal appeared to be solid on both sides, but the new seal is cupped. I assume that the cupped side points toward the fluid and the flat side goes against the retainer 蔓is that the correct orientation?

I read to check the shaft and bearings while I have it out to make sure that is not what caused the leak. The outer ring on the bearing has about 1/16" of play. It doesn't seem like too much but would rest easier with confirmation.

There is also a slight groove around the outer end of the shaft where the seal and retainer goes on. It looks perfectly milled, so I'm hoping it's supposed to be there and hasn't been worn in by something rubbing that shouldn't be.

Would appreciate feedback from anyone who's done this before. I'm doing a complete fluid/filter change and really don't want to tear it back down later. Thanks.

If you can see the spring inside the open, or cupped side that goes towards the inside, the flat side goes to the outside. Does the pto shaft wobble in any direction? if it does replace the pto shaft bearings. The slight groove in the shaft was cause by the old seal (while it may not sound possible something soft like a seal running on a steel shaft can wear a little groove in it, but it does).
