Oil & Fuel Massey 135 Oil Filter

Hey guys I知 new to the tractor world. I just inherited my father in laws Massey 135, not sure on the year model. I went to change the oil in it the other day and it has the long tube style oil filter (I致e ordered the spin on conversion) when I was taking it apart the spring and small lock washer and another rubber washer fell out. I can not find a diagram anywhere showing me how to put this back together so any help would be appreciated.

Also after running for an hour or so it will start sputtering and die. It will immediately start back up go a few feet and then die again. If I let it sit a few minutes it will go further, it doesn稚 matter how much I adjust the throttle lever or open or close the fuel valve. I知 assuming there is a blockage in the bowl filter. Would some sea foam help this out?

Also just FYI it is a gas motor but I can稚 find a tag on it anywhere to give me any info.

Can't help you with the sputtering but for the oil filter the spring goes on the bottom. I think there was a washer on the outside and inside of the oil filter can. I just messed around with it until it didn't leak when it was on. I had to crank mine really tight.

I remember reading the spin on filter can be bad, something with the oil pressure and filtering mechanism. I can't confirm though, maybe someone else can comment.

I would not use Seafoam. That product was developed for ourboard 2-stroke engines years ago and has little effect on a 4-stroke engine. Cleaning the fuel circuit on a gasoline engine requires solvents that are not present in Seafoam. Any brand name fuel system cleaner will work. If the product contains PEA (usually stated on the label), that will help remove carbon from the valve stems and combustion chambers, a bonus. I prefer Gumout or Techron.

Also, since you're converting to a spin on oil filter, I use a WIX brand filters on my MF 231S. As for not working or being bad, check the oil pressure specifications for your model. Also, the WIX site will provide specifications for the filter for your model.
