massey 1660 pto problems

My 1660 now has about 129 hours on it, have not used the pto this winter. I just hooked up the brush hog and to my surprise, the pto will not work, the instrument panel thinks it is spinning and the tractor will shut down if i get off of the seatbut the shaft is not spinning. Has anyone had a similar issue with their massey? I have checked fuses, thinking maybe a solenoid has blown one...but they are all good.

Is the lever on the left side of the seat engaged?

Now i feel like an idiot....i am not used to having a lever and a switch to engage the pto....thanks for the reply and you were spot on...the lever was disengaged. I was ready to send the tractor back to the dealer...sometimes we cannot see the forest for the trees.

You won't be the first or the last. I put the lever on once and just turn the pto on with the dash button.

I use the lever to disengage the PTO when I use the brush hog to prevent wear on the PTO brake. The high inertia of the brush hog will burn up the brake prematurely. And yes I have done the same thing as the OP, and forgot to engage the lever :banghead: and been wondering why the PTO didn't work until I remembered the lever.:duh:
