Hello everyone. I have my Grandpas Massey Ferguson 180 that I finally got around to fixing. It sat outside for a long time. I was bright enough that I kept the exhaust covered and it broke loose easily. Had a valve stuck and bent a pushrod. A little tapping on top of the valve and some good penetrating oil freed it up. The injector pump and injectors, clutch, one brake, a rim, tires, got replaced or rebuilt. Now I am on to the hydraulics and was going to start with the filters. The one I will split the tractor again to get to and the front one behind the grill i think goes to the multi. After that I need a little advice on where and what order to go through them. Any input is welcome. Thanks.

The power steering will always be better one way than the other due to the design.
Just curious, are the brakes dry disk?
Good luck with the multipower. I can't help you there, I only drove them (135 & 178).

Yes, it is a dry disk brake. I saw a kit somewhere that would make them wet. Pretty expensive if I remember right.

The wet disc was to expensive for my father (178), and you will be changing most of the back end. There is also a kit to make the dry disc brakes work better, but it is just a bad design. I learned to drive without using the brake as much as possible to make the brakes last. You just use a gear low enough to hold you back on the hills.

I totally disagree about the steering better one way than another. The 180 has the same type hydrostatic steering like 1080, 1085, and all 1100 series. Early models did have the Saginaw steering hand pump while all later had the Charlyn hand pumps. I believe you are thinking of the 50, 65, 150, 165, 175 that all had mechanical power assist, those could steer poorly either way if the spool valve was not set right..
