I just picked up what I thought was a 231, but it turns out to be a 230. No big deal, basically the same tractor, except the 230 has one cylinder on the left side for the power steering. I would of rather had manuel steering, but no big deal.

The front axle had a missing bushing on the front of the axle pivot, I went to the dealer and got 2 bushings, one for the front and one for the rear. I jacked the tractor up and put on jack stands and was able to install the front bushing and it went in about 3/4 of the way in and the last 1/4 in I had to tap in with hammer. Got lucky that the housing was not egg shaped. My problem is there are no shims and it needs them, but in order to install the shims I need to get the axle completely out. I was able to remove the keeper pin and move the axle retainer out to see if the rear bushing was install, which it was. My question is how do you get the center retainer out? Is it best to take the tires off, or remove the axle slider bolts and slide the axles out? Or should I even worry about the shims?

I did notice that the right side tire has a bunch of play, so I will need new bearings and seal very soon.

Let me know the No-No's when replacing the pivot bushing and shims.

I am also replacing the tie rod ends, so the front end should be nice and tight once done. I was wondering is there away to rebuild the ball joints on the steering ram, since both have some play also.
