Looking for some help here. Just got a Massey 255 can't figure out the 3pt hitch lever operation. The plastic covered lever closest to the seat will raise and lower the hitch with no load on it. But the outer lever with the ball on top has to be used and put into what I believe is constant pump mode (all the way up past the lock) in order to pick up anything heavy. Is this correct? Also does it matter which hole the center link is mounted ( top, bottom or middle)? Thanks.

If your just picking stuff up with the hitch you would move the draft lever(square knob) to positional control and leave it there, raising and lowering is done with the other lever(round knob).

Just want to mention that If you are plowing fields or doing ground engaging work the levers are operated differently.

If the pump was changed its possible they made some mistakes on reassembly of the controls while they were in the case.

So I'm taking it when doing ground engaging work you would use the controls oppositely?

Is the hitch working better now?

Not opposite but just different, in general you would move the draft lever into draft control zone( adjustment required dependent on soil). The implement is still raised and lowered with the round knob but now it controls depth of engagement in the lower position , usually there is a lock screw to have a repeatable setting.
