MF 60
HI, I've recently inherited a MF 60 but it runs with very high oil pressure, it comes down a little bit when it's been working and warmed up, but it's still near, or on the red line. I don't have a manual and wondering if anyone on this web site may offer any advice to either the oil problem or manual, many thanks

I would check it with a new gauge hooked straight into the oil pressure line where your sending unit is or if the old type with copper tubing running to the gauge, unhook it and tie in a new gauge prior to going to a thinner oil. The old gauge or sending unit may be reading incorrectly.

ditto on the new gauge.. and get one that reads in PSI.. not a red / green 'zone'

what oil ya using, and what climate

My oil pressure always read high, like pegged to the max high. The needle fluttered too. I replaced the oil sending unit and it doesn't flutter as much now and the pressure reads lower (reads around 60 when super hot). But still is somewhat high for the most part. I was told to not worry about it unless it reads way too low and just keep an eye on the oil level.

I wouldn't trust any gauge reading without using a master gauge first to verify the actual pressure.

I replaced a leaking sending unit on a Dodge truck once with an auto parts unit and it pegged the needle on the guage. It was working properly prior to replacement, just leaking oil. I took it back and had to go to the Dodge dealer and get an OEM unit. It worked fine. You may have the same problem as the sending unit may not match the electronics in the gauge.

yep.. I'd verify with a good mechanical gauge.

I keep a gauge on a grease gun hose whip and use it as a tester when I need a known good reading..

Thanks everyone for their input, think I will start with an oil change which is long overdue then look at getting another pressure guage if oil change does not seem to have an impact. Many thanks again

You may have a stuck closed oil pressure relief valve or the oil filter is plugged. Other possible causes are too high oil viscosity for the ambient temperature conditions you are operating in. The last thing I would suspect is the oil pressure gauge unless it is not the correct one for your tractor. The best type of oil pressure gauge is a one with numbers rather than with color bands.
