Massey Ferguson 10-10 compact question (New Member)

I'm the second owner of a Massey Ferguson 10-10 4WD, with very low hours, estate sale. I think it
is a 1970 or 71 model only has 400 hours on it. Does anyone know if Massey Ferguson offered a
power steering option for that model and if they did where would a fellow get one. I have tried the
local dealer and they can't seem to remember if one was available or not. They were not very helpful
as they gave up the MF dealership and are now a Kubota dealer, in fact they didn't even offer to try
and find any information from the MF company. I really don't expect to locate a new one but would
be interested in used parts to build one.

Welcome to TBN! First of all, if you look at the tractordata.com listing for the 1010, it does show that FEL's were available as an option for that model. *Most likely*..... they did have power steering for 1010's that came equipped with factory FEL's on them to steer easier. Also, the link below will help you tell exactly what year model your 1010 is, if you will compare your SN to the listing of serial numbers on it. According to that list, they were only built from 1982 to 1992, so it ain't a '70 or '71 model LOL!!! The 3cyl engine on it was made by Toyosha and was rated at 16hp.

If you look at the link above, there is an icon for the I&T manual for the MF 1010 tractors. That manual will show you if there was in fact a power steering option, and how it was designed. That will give you a big clue as to what you are looking for. Some of the smaller tractors like that just had a hyd cylinder that attached to the steering linkage, and was controlled by a proportioning valve, to assist with the turning.

It's only $19.99 and it would be a good idea to purchase one from Amazon, that manual will also give you the maintenance information to do all the routine service on that tractor. At 400 hrs, it's just now getting broke in, good luck with it!!!

Kebo, many thanks for the information, you certainly have been a great help. I have already sent for a manual from Amazon so perhaps it will arrive this week or the first part of next week. In the past I have received orders from them in a speedy fashion. I have already broken two keys on the steering shaft, OEM replacement. Since then I have purchased a 12 inch length of square key stock so I will be able to fabricate my own as the genuine keys are a little expensive for what they are. Steers quite hard when you have a load in the front end bucket. I still would like to have power steering so perhaps I shall have to go with a home built unit. A friend of mine built one for his Fordson Major and it works real well. I checked on the tractor serial number and it indicates that it is a 1988 model. Thanks again for your help. Herb
