does anyone have any experience with a massey ferguson 1020? i have the opurtunity to purchase one for around $2500. it is 2wd and has a front grader blade on it and only has about 600 hours on it, it is an early 80s model i believe. all the tires are good and it runs and works great, i know because it is my girlfriends fathers tractor and i have seen it used many times. the basic question i have is how much work can one of these tractors do? how heavy is it? i would like to use it for raking hay and tedding hay and moving around empty haywagons, but im not sure it would have the hp and weight to do that, right now i usualy use my fathers NAA for those tasks, and its around 30 hp and handles the jobs without a problem

It may be a little light for hay use. You can go to machinerylink.com or tractortips to get the exact hp - I think i recall it being in the neighborhood of 20 hp. Anyhow the tractor was made by Hinomoto for massey, it is the middle of the compact line at the time - there was a 1010, 1020, and 1030. $2500 is an excellent price even for a 2wd, especially with the blade. For pulling the hay wagons, the power is not the problem, but the fact that the tractor probably weighs 1500lbs or so is going to limit pulling ability. On a downhill slope I would expect the empty haywagon to push the tractor. Just my 2 cents. More of a consumer compact than a small farm tractor.

yea thats sorta what i figured, i went to machinerylink and they list it as 1950 lbs, so yea it is pretty light to pull wagons especialy on the hills we got around here. i still may consider it tho, the nice thing about it is that i know the condition since i know the seller well, and the low hours, he is considering trading it in and that is what the dealer will give him for a trade in so i could buy it off him for around that. i dont know if it would be worthwhile to have a compact around or not
