1966 MF 135 Multipower
Hi Trying to determine build date from serial no 148 607862 , I believe it to be English built , need to purchase parts .
Engine starts and runs smooth, but is forcing oil out dipstick ?
Thinking rings ?
Possible would be helpful ?
Many Thanks
Neville

Diesel I presume - would be AD3.152 Perkins. Strongly suspect rings are worn out.
Parts for these engines are available almost anywhere, and are not at all costly.

An in-chassis rebuild is possible if bores and pistons are Ok - minimum - rings, big-end bearings and head gasket.

A full overhaul otherwise - liner kits, overhaul head and injectors - if required.
I did this job on a very similar 3cyl Perkins in my MF40 - goes like a new one.

Don't be scared, rather, be careful and thorough. Know your limits, and don't be afraid to ask for help ... it will make for a better outcome.

Inj pump should be Ok unless it leaks, then a seal kit is needed - talk to ThePumpGuy.

It is well worth the work ... these tractors are legendary. Pics please?

Pull the stick & make sure its not "making oil" if it is, the front seal on the pump might be leaking,
& theres might not be a need of an engine o/h.??
U can pull the pump & w/about 3psi of air IN THE FUEL RETURN HOLE, check the front seal..
THATS a whole lot easies than an inframe..

Cheap first. check the engine oil, does it smell of diesel? does it feel thin,or slippery as oil should? See thepumpguysc's post.
Does the hour meter work?
If so how many hours? 8000+ then worn or broken rings likely.
As Paterick2222 says these are a simple engine to work on. Think big meccano set.

Yes, all good ideas. I jumped the gun somewhat and presumed excess crankcase fumes were causing pressure to push oil out.
With the engine warm and running, remove the oil cap and check for excess fumes coming out of the crankcase - a small volume is acceptable (there is never NONE) but a large amount is an indication of worn compression rings. "Fumes" is literally air and partially-burnt fuel that has leaked past worn piston rings. But surely the oil level would have to be 6" overfull if fuel was entering the crankcase if rings are Ok.
Speaking of cheap first, don't forget to also check the lift pump for a split diaphram - that will also let fuel into the oil. A breather pipe blocked by a mud-wasp's nest is another possibility.
