I was priced 36K for a Massey 1759 with loader. Compared to say an LS with 55 HP, the Massey is about 8K higher. Anybody have a good reason why there would be so much difference? The dealer said the 1700 is more of a premium tractor but I don't see anything on it that really is any better than the LS.

Eight grand higher is a lot of money, I like Massey but I would not pay that if I could buy a similar size tractor for eight grand less. What they call premium is a joke to me. If you were talking John Deere that would be a different story, there “economy” tractors are a lot different than their main line tractors and the price reflects that. The so called premium Massey tractors don’t have anywhere near eight grand more in anything over the other brands.

I was quoted $37,800 CASH price on a MF1749 CAB model w/loader and 3rd scv installed. That was with a cab. Did you get price on cab or open station model? Did the dealer specify that as a cash price or finance price? If that was a price on open station, you might want to get a price from a different Massey dealer. The Massey dealer I visited claimed cost was $6k more to get financing which is ridiculous and I walked away from them.

There are lots of happy LS owners on TBN.

Open station. Every dealer I talk will give you 0% financing but that is full price so you paying either way you go.

I don't know the LS brand but I am very happy with my MF 1758.

Can you tell us what LS tractor you are comparing the Massey 1759 to?

Looking at xr4155. I was quoted 27k for pre-sale price on LS, but same dealer wants 36k without tax for the new 1760M that is taking place of the 1759. I can't believe a Massey is built that much better, but I could be wrong. Haven't seen either one in person.

Go and drive both. For instance on the LS I immediately realized the steering wheel column was too short. If I moved the seat up, my feet were way too close to the pedals. If I lowered the seat, by hydrostatic foot was at a funny angle. Tilt of wheel did no good. On a gear tractor that might not be a big deal, but HST it seems very important. So I ruled out the LS as a tractor for heavy hour use. However I liked everything else about it, so I might get one later for snow removal. Who knows, maybe LS will change the dimensions as well.

Keep in mind that big brands like Massey, John Deere, New Holland and a couple more, just get their tractors built by companies like Tym, LS and some will get built by Branson. So when you buy one of these big brand tractors, you pretty much pay for the brand, hence the price difference. Of course, this big brands won't disclose this info to the public.

As an example, the Boomer series of New Holland is built by LS and it is exactly the same as LS tractors apart from the hood and the price. Branson builds a couple of series for John Deere, I believe the 5E and another that I can't remember. At least for the European market.

Also consider taking a look at Branson tractors if you have a dealer close by. It's an heavier duty tractor than most brands. I was bit sceptic when I got mine, but after owning it and take a closer look at it, I can see it is built better than big name brands.
