Hello all, I have an older Massey Ferguson 255 tractor that I just refinished . I purchased on older fel that should fit with a little fabrication work, I think I have that area covered. My questions are on the hydrolics. I do have two remotes but would like to utilize the main pump to operate the hydrolics . I wil include a picture of the exterior lines from the pump. I am not sure which is the feed line and which is the return. My other question is that I have a 3-4 gallon extra hydrolics tank that came with the fel . I am assuming the fluid will run from the tank back to the main pump on the tractor , but is it gravity feed or under slight pressure? The main tractor fluid level check dip stick is located on the side of the tractor ( I have over-filled the tractor before and the excess fluid has ran out around this dip stick. Will the fluid from the extra 3-4 gallon tank overflow from here as well? I have a two lever control that came with the fel , one lever to operate the two lift cylinders and one lever to operate the single tilt cylinder for the bucket. The control has an inlet for a hose labeled "in" , I am assuming this will come from the pump (main tractor) under pressure and flow through the control and then into the extra tank and then back into the main tractor pump . Sorry for the long post but any help would greatly be appreciated! Thanks

I would remove the tank and just run lines to the rear remotes. I had that setup on my 255 and even though I did not like it at first after I used it a little I loved it. If you run the loader for a while it is nice for your arm to not have to reach up and work a leaver, hanging down to the remote leavers is much easier for a long job, and it works well. :2cents:

Thanks Ed, I do a lot of accessories that also run off of the rear remotes ( discs , grain drills , ect ) . I would prefer to have the use of both the fel and the rear remotes moest of the time. would running just off of the rear remotes , would this not deplete the hydraulic oil due to the capacity of the fel cylinders?

They are double acting cylinders so as you take out you are also putting back in so no. I always took the loader off when pulling a disc ect. but a few times I unhooked the bucket hoses and hooked up the disc.

Just a thought, the 255 is the same tractor as the 265, the only difference is the injectors and the pump. I got new injectors for mine and just had the pump turned up till I had 74 hp. It would do the work easier and with less fuel and the 255 is plenty heavy for 74 hp, I did have the rear tires filled. Just thought you might want to know.

Thanks Ed , as much as I plan to use the fel , it will probably become a perminante fixture to the tractor. I also thought about upping the hp but will wait until the injectors need work. The rear tire are already filled. Thanks

Did you ever figure out the hydraulic situation? I have the same tractor with 2 rear remotes and a loader. The previous owner ran the 2 lever loader valve to one of the remotes and used twine to hold one valve open to run the loader. I want to plumb it in for good to free up my remotes and get rid of the twine!!!
Thanks,
