Massey Ferguson 283 (your opinion)

I recently inherited a MF 283. I would like some feedback from those of you familiar with this model. Are there any particular strengths or weaknesses inherent to this model tractor. Any and all information / opinions welcomed. thanks

This it the tractor. Got it out of the barn today. Looks like its a 1991 model. Gauges dont work. Cranks and runs good. Im considering selling it to fund a trailer, or possibly putting a FEL on it to use for rough work, or let my buddies and or hired hands use it. Been told that a FEL would be very slow as there is no auxillary hydrolic pump. The hydraulic controls are right between your legs. What would you guys recommend. If I did try to sell it, what would it bring? thanks again.

They are bullet proof. You can get a loader for it and get the aux hydrauluic pump that goes on the front of the crank shaft. It will give you good loader preformance. If you sell you should get $5000-$11000 for it.

I found a MF Front End Loader that came of off a 283. Guy said he would sell it to me for $2000. How would I go about plumbing it into the tractor, or would I just use the rear remote plug ins? Also, If I diddnt get a auxillary hydraulic pump, how slow would it be, and would it be strong? thanks.
