Hello, can anyone offer advice on hunting down info /spec's on massey ferguson 50s industrial tractor? The model # has "50s" , NOT 50's decade. The letter part of 50s may not be accurate is that part of the plate was not clear. The year is firm, I was working for that company when the tractor was bought new. It is a new zealand spec 1987 model, front end loader only and 3x2 speed (mechanical) gearbox.
Only serial no is above the steering wheel and is 876390.
What I have found online only refers to shuttle gearboxes, not mechanical gearboxes.
I specificlly want find out what the loader lift capacity is and if I can add 3ph as appears to be a factory delete when fitted with concrete counter weight

I suspect this tractor is a 50E, 50EX or 50F. The s/n if it is a 2wd 50E shows it as being a 1983 model. However that is not to say it sat a lot for a couple of years. The transmission should have a forward revers lever and a high/low lever and a lever 1,2,3. This would be a 6x6 transmission the lever on the left by the dash is a shuttle lever, making this a shuttle transmission if this is the transmission I am thinking of. The other transmission offered in this series is the instareverse. This transmission had two pedals on the right, one for forward and one for reverse. The 50C the predecessor to these models was capable of lifting 2100 kgs, with a break out force of 3900kgs. To add a 3pt to this machine you would need to find the 3 point hydraulic pump, rockshaft and other parts. The easiest way would be to find a donor machine and get the parts off of that. I do not know what the ag equivalent for the later 50 series, however the 20c used the same rear as a 245. I think that the 30b used the same as a 255.
Go to agcopartsbooks.com/ and see if you can identify it by using the parts books.

I have been back to the tractor and double checked the numbers.
The 50s is correct but the plate is on the loader arms, also the arms are not genuine mf,but are a local (new zealand) product. So I suspect "50s is a red herring.
The serial number on the tractor reads mf50 876390.
The gearbox is an ag type 6 forward and 2 reverse.
I also tried to take the side plate of to eyeball if there was a 3ph pump installed but nogo as oil level to high and the rear of the foot plate won't let the cover plate off.

I am now sure there is on 3ph pump in this tractor so no further interest as it would cost to much to add 3ph.
Please consider this thread closed.

Sportsman762 I have a Massey 40B backhoe with loader. Would my transmission be the instareverse it has two pedals on the right for forward and reverse. there is two shift levers on the floor in middle of tractor which one does what? Thanks for any info you can give on tractor.

Your tractor would be a instareverse. The two pedals on the right are for forward / reverse, the left two pedals are the brakes. Make sure both shifters are in the middle position (neutral) and start the tractor. Put the transmission in gear with the tractor at idle, the left shifter is the gear selector, and the right is the range selector. Put both shifters in the forward position, then press the pedal for the direction you wish to travel. The more you push the pedal the faster you will go.
The directional pedals on the instareverse are tied to the shuttle transmission, and the engine throttle. It first engages the gears to go the desired direction then it applies throttle the more you push causing the tractor to move faster.
to rev the engine up in neutral without having to move the hand throttle push both pedals at once.

Sportsman762 what does the back position on the two shifter do you mentioned the forward position and I take this as being in 1st gear and in low range if I put both levers to the back would this be 2nd gear and high range? thanks for the reply someone mentioned me asking a question on this thread as high jacking this thread sorry for that but I am a new member and have to learn how things work on here. Thanks for the reply on the pedals and shifters I am sure there will be more questions coming thanks so much
