Comparison Massey Ferguson vs. Mahindra

Looking for advice. I am looking at purchasing one of the following two tractors.

In no particular order...

1. Mahindra 3525, 81 hours, front-end loader, 2WD, 35 HP or
2. MF 1433, 700 hours, front-end loader, 4WD, 33 HP, R4 tires.

Use: 25 acre land that needs to be cleared of 6-8 inch diameter mesquites (not brush), prickly pear clearing, helping establish/building basic caliche roads; maintenance work around stock tank, some dirt work, small food plots and wife's personal garden.

both are priced right at $12K (does this seem reasonable; does to me based upon internet search but i could be off).

Love to hear emperical and anecdotal evidence based on experience.

I'd lean to the 4WD if there are hills or mud.

Agree with Loren, on that small of tractor, I would definitely want 4WD. Even on dry ground, you will quickly run out of traction with a 2WD of that size. On a bigger and heavier tractor, it wouldn't be as bad.

Couple more grand and you can buy a brand new Massey or Bobcat.
Massey just came back out with their free loader program on the 15 and 16 series tractors.
Bobcat has had the free loader for a while now.
I would not buy a 2 wheel drive with a loader unless it was a KILLER deal!

I agree with Wallace. I priced Bobcat about a month ago and you can get a new one for e a few thousand more with a warranty. What ever you get get 4x4 and make sure you really want R4's. Nothing beats R1's for pulling.

I will have to agree with the rest in a small tractor get 4wd it is a must to do any real work. R1's are a big plus if you plan on doing more dirt work than lawn mowing type work. I would check the price of new tractors with the 0% financing some are offering it might be worth considering new.

I have had a Kubota B3200 with R4 tires for a little over a year and just last month decided to purchase a set of R1 tires for it. It is a world of difference for what I do around the farm it will do as much work in 2wd as it use to do in 4wd. The R4 tires would just set on the ground and spin on top of the ground and not really get a good bite and pull. With the R1's it will now dig a hole if you let it with allot more pulling power.

I have one 2wd machine with a loader. Even with 3000# on the back, it doesn't have enough traction to go up slight inclines backwards. Very distressing having to dump the bucket to get moving.


4wd is soooooo much nicer when working with a loader.
