Tractor
Looking
Hey there, I'm new here and I'm trying to learn a little more about this particular tractor. Has anyone used this tractor for lite landscape work? Seeding, fertilizing, small grade box, or roller, spike, blade. (I do need to mow a little too!)I was wondering if this tractor was too small for this or should I got to a 1428 or 1433? Also I know the GC is Hydrostatic, so If I did need a bigger tractor, should I try to stay with Hydrostatic or go standard to do this kind of work? What is the benifit of hydrostatic vs. standard? I've been told that if I do more than just mow, I need to go to a standard Transmission. Is this true? I've priced the GC2300 ($9525.00 w/MMM) but I haven't priced any of the others. Well, I've rambled on too much!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I started with one question and found out I have alot more!! Sorry! I just get excited when I get to talkin' tractors!! Any Help? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif WINSTONSM

WINSTONSM, Well let me give you the HI HO Hardy Welcome to TBN, Now for your questions and my questions to help answer your question a little better /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif First realizing that we are all trying to help give you ideas and advice on any given situation yada yada yada,
Five acres depending on your needs my thoughts are this,
The smaller the tractor the easier to manuever around through tight spaces mowing or using FEL but then you will make more trips than with a larger tractor. The GC will handle everything you've listed . Now for the hydro question, The concensus is hydro is easier to use especially mowing grass and the only real reason anyone shouldn't use hydro over gears is for plowing large fields or very long constant pulls, talking about the small tractor catagory... I have a 1433v that I bought for only five acres but I have woods with large trees and large dead wood ,also I'm used to that size tractor as the 135 I have is the same size & weight as the 1433v,and from time to time I will do a job for someone else which helps to have a capable unit .The only thing I wish now is that I would have bought my tractor with hydro just for the grass mowing part. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gifSpeaking of weight a heavy tractor will make a little quicker job of any given task except mowing.
Pricing a 1428v gear tractor is about $10k w/o FEL or mower add Approx. $1500 for hydro 1433v is $13,500 Approx. w/o FEL and is also gear trans w/shuttle shift add $3k for FEL and another $1500 for hydro,
And you said you rambled on /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Winston, Nasty gave a pretty good summary I believe. I have a GC2300, but have not used it for a lot of ground-engaging tasks (mostly mowing and blowing snow). I have done some boxblade and rear blade work. No problem on power, though I don't know what kind of terrain you have. If you check out my posts, you'll see some "afterthoughts" I've had with this tractor related to 3PH operations. In general I think it's a great machine, but it does have some limitations.

I love the HST. Not that I couldn't have gotten used to a "standard" (not so much any more?) gear setup. Great for FEL, boxblade, snowblower, etc. I really can't see how you'd go wrong with it regardless of which tractor you end up with. Have you tried driving any of 'em at the dealer yet? That might help you decide toot-sweet.

Feel free to send me a message if you have any other questions. Good luck to you!

I will be doing the 50 hr. maint on my GC2300 this weekend. I bought mine for $12, 500 with mower and FEL and havent looked back. It was used to move about 50 tons of top soil and a bunch of mulch for the landscaping around the house.
So moving dirt and mowing a couple acres is what I use it for.(I did tear out some trees and stumps). And snow removal this winter (cause I think we are gonna get a bunch in my neck of the woods).

When I started my search (I looked at every tractor I could find in this size), I had it in mind to get a standard versus HST. My main thinking was the power xfer but I do not regret the HST. It is nice to get a load of top soil and back away without having to shift gears. Also is nice for trimming. I understand that there are standards that have a reverse petal or lever to allow quick changing of directions but I decided on the HST before looking into it.

Oh yes I also added a rear blade and plan on adding a tiller for the spring garden.

Just thought I would give you my $0.02 worth.

I am continuing to have a blast on this thing. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
