I just bough a old Massey-Harris disc. I thought it needed bearings as all 4 groups of discs are pretty loose in their journals, but after doing a bit of research, I'm learning that they may not use bearings. I read that as long as you keep it well greased, you're good to go. They are well lubed & turn freely.

Anyone know?

Your old disc may be like my old disc (a Towner 6.5 ft offset disc) which has bushings instead of bearings.

The two-piece bushings are in the lower left in the photo. YOu pack a lot of grease in these bushings before each use. No way these things are going to wear out very quickly.

Ken,

I think we have similar units. Mine is a model 22 and I did a little more research & read that too. Any Idea where to get wood bearings?

Thank you,

Casey

Nevermind, found it, woodexbearing.com, just in case someone else needs hardwood bearings.

I've got an old fossil of an M-H disc too, mine was a pull-behind 8 foot double set that I converted to a single 3-point style. Mine has "M-H 101" on the bearing blocks, not sure whether that's a model number or just a casting number.

I haven't really had a chance to use it yet since I finished the conversion late last fall. It won't be as efficient as the double, but there's no way on God's green earth a 3400 Kubota will pull a loaded 8 foot double.

Mine has either bushings or plain steel bearings, I didn't look too closely since everything turns freely. I'll likely put in new grease nipples in the spring, grease it good and try her out.
