Its been a while since I posted an update but I finally got the ol girl going. She is running well and I can't wait to take it out for a trial run. Since I was so delayed in the rebuild, I figured I would get some painting done to make it look a bit better. Attached are a few pics.

I still have some unresolved issues with power steering and hydraulics but I am working on them. Hope to report good news soon.

Robert, I put on the same gauge set you did. However, I cannot get the engine to idle down to 500 rpms. Not sure if the gauge is off or designed for some other type system. I have a generator.

Also, did you see any benefit of putting an pointless ignition system on. I know if will be more dependable but could you tell the difference? Also, has anyone added a high performance coil and noticed any difference.

If you using the same tachdrive then I really wouldn't worry about the RPMs. If your really wanting to know the difference, you can buy a laser tach which is no more than puting silver tape on your front pulley wheel and the laser will give you accurate RPMs. As for the ignition. I have put quite a few hours on mine and see very little wear on the points. I'm staying with the original. The cost of electronics, I could buy quite a few sets of conventional. If I where burning them up often I might consider swapping over. That was on my "to do" list but later changed my mind. My problem was someone put a screw clean through and destroyed the centrifugal weight springs that are under the points mounting plate. Since fixing that, it now runs great. -kid

Thanks. I also solved my hydraulic problem. I could not get them to lift. I cleaned the filter screen, looked at a bunch of things. It dawned on me that when I took the stand pipe out of the auxiliary line hook up located just in front of the seat it had no o-ring on the end of it. I decided to buy one and see what it does. It actually calls for two, one rubber and one hard plastic. I simply used two rubber ones and it worked. The hydraulics now work great.

I then took it to my friends and hooked up a bush hog and took it through about an acre. It worked great and ran well. I had a small oil leak coming from the oil filter area and have since tightened it up. Also, I don't think my generator is charging my battery. My ammeter runs slightly to the negative at all times. Any way to check this would be appreciated.

If you start having problems with it quitting under heavy load running slow. You might want to install a new gas line and bend it well away from the manifold. It could actually boil the gas in the line. As soon as the line on mine cleared the carb. I put a 90 in it and took it to the block then 90 again straight back then up to the tank. It may just be the picture, but your fuel line looks very close to the manifold. Same with my wiring. I also double wrapped my wiring. First with electrical tape then again with friction which self seals.

Thanks Robert. I have looked at it and it is clear of manifold but I will recheck it. I am having someone look at the charging problem tomorrow. She is running good though.

I like those weights up on the front wheels. I need some of othose. When lifting my cutter the front end bets a bit light.

You can buy one of those cheep laser tach drives to verify advance when acceleration. It's great when setting idle timing and checking the advance under load. This plays a part with the governor operating properly. If it bogs slightly and speeds up then more than likely the governor is doing it's thing.
