I was rearrranging the barn last week to make some room for storing my loader. I hooked up my 6ft blower lifted it a bit and pulled out of the barn in 2nd gear. I made a right turn and felt the blower start to swing and then heard a snap. The bracket that attaches the check chain to the lift arm had snapped at the bolt hole, with no damage to the bolt. I found the piece that had broken off and it looked like what my father used to call "white metal or pot metal" a cheap alloy. Ordered a new one from Massey, $6.00 plus freight plus $100.00 worth of aggrivation.
I have a large pc. of pasture that has to be side hill mowed. I have everything as short as it will allow. These new style check chains don't give you much room for adjustment.
The new one looks to be made of real steel.

Check the broken piece with a magnet to see if it's steel. I'll bet the piece broke from metal fatigue leaving a fractured edge that only looks like pot metal. Let us know what you find ...
