Massey Ferguson MF 1250
My MF 1250 has been making noise when in 4 wheel drive. I don't use 4X4 unless I'm stuck. This past weekend, I engaged the rear differential lock and when I applied more throttle, there was a bad grinding or metallic sound coming from the rear end. Yesterday, when I was on concrete, in 2 wheel drive, turning a circle to the right, I again heard the grinding or grabbing noise in the rear end. Then later when I attempted to activate the PTO, nothing happenedd other than the PTO light came on. The PTO worked fine the day before. The tranny on this machine is a 16 speed shuttle shift. There are about 900 hours on the tractor. Any advice or suggestions? Thanks.

i think the frist thing you should do is drain the tractor fluid. there is a filter on the left side. remove it and see if its damaged. if its damaged then the drive shaft has been driven through the rear housing. the tractor will have to be split to fix.

Thanks. wrenchturner suggested I do the same and look for metal parts. I contacted a dealer, they recommended I remove the top cover on the rear end after draining the fluid, and take a look inside the rear end. What do you think it would cost to rebuild rearend?
