Okay: very, very long story, but here it is in a nutshell. A missionary in Honduras has a Massey 1742 that gives the error code 2042-02, which indicates a problem with the fuel rail pressure. Trust me, everything that can be done to fix that problem has been done, including replacing multiple parts. A US mechanic went down and did everything he knew to diagnose and fix it. A US electronic engineer has looked at the electronics. Nothing should be causing the error code. At this point, we think that the tractor's computer needs to be completely reset (or re-zeroed). The missionary tried unhooking the cables from the battery and putting them together for 3 hours to drain the computer's power (causing a reset), with no luck.
We are at a loss as to what to do next. Apparently, there is one Massey dealer mechanic in the whole country, and he isn't much help (and is a 2-hour drive away). No help from Massey in the US, and the US MF dealer where the tractor was bought went out of business. This has been going on for about 3 years now. Ugh.
Any other suggestions on how to reset the tractor's computer?
