a friend of mine asked me to take a look at a massy 231 he just bought. the 3 pt has 2 levers but the decals are too faded to read so we're unsure which lever controls what? moving them up and down the lift acts crazy. if you go up, sometimes the arms will drop.! is that how they're supposed to be? anybody have a manual or a link to a web page with info on it? or just plain ole advice? thanks in advance.

1 s draft, the other is position control. Position control sets your lift arm hieght, draft sets the sensitivity of the lift arms. As you found out, you can get different results by moving the levers in various positions. If you have a rear pounted implement that is pulled thru the ground, you will want to set the draft hi enough so it will lift the 3 point up a little automatically when you hit a hard spot so as not to bog the tractor down to much. Once you get thru the hard spot the 3 point will lower on its own. If you have a rear mounted implement that just sits on top of the ground like a blade or tiller, you don't need the draft. An owners manual will do a good job of explaining how it works.

Basically, to use the inner Position control, the draft control lever is set all the way up, the opposite is true when using Draft control.
