The experiment to grow tomatoes in some boxes I built alongside a small pier is working OK. Pictures below are (1) a shot from the water (2) my two year old grandson helping me sort the tomatoes, without squeezing too hard and (3) the sunset view the tomatoes have each day.

They do look good.

How are your future maters looking Jimmy ? My better plants are about 30" tall with a handful of blossoms on them.

Milton, your tomatoes look terrific, nice tomatoes and healthy vines. What has the average high temperature been there for the last couple of weeks? Also, if you don't mind, what variety did you plant. You probably said in the other thread, but I forgot.

I picked 9 lb this morning off of four 444s and four Early Girls. My other varieties (Big Momma and Roma) that I hoped would make good salsa tomatoes are suffering from 100 degree heat and a farmer who probably overwaters them. I have three sweet 100s and a couple of yellow cherries that I'm planting for fall tomatoes if our blazing heat doesn't cook them.

Our plants are growing well but no blossoms yet. We have a bit of time to wait yet.

I'll take some pics to update my garden thread.

Thanks. I put in a bit of work to get the boxes built and good soil there, but the results have been rewarding, even fighting blossom end rot and Early Blight quite a bit. I have to pick off the bad leaves almost every day.

In a word, our temps have been HOT. We hit the high 90s several days, and everyday had a heat index well over 100. I made sure the boxes got plenty of water during the hot days. They drain well so it worked out good so far.

After a disaster last year trying too many varieties, this year I settled on Celebrity and Better Boy. I like to put tomatoes (and tomatoes and okra cooked together) in the freezer and the Celebritys tend to make all at one time. The Better Boy are supposed to produce at a slower pace but hold on longer. I also have a couple of Sweet 100s but they have bit the dust.

Good luck with all your maters
