Max 26 PTO problems, need help please

Hi all,

Super tractor newbie here I just got my 26 late last fall and only used the pto for my rear snow blower maybe 5 times last winter. Any ways I went out to use it today and I can't get my pto to engage. When I depress the clutch and go to move the lever down all I get is a nasty gear grinding noise and it won't engage. The clutch works for changing gears s I don't know what it could be. I just had the 50hr service done by the dealer and he put the blower on before he left. What am I missing?

Have you tried to engage the pto while in gear or neutral?

Both. I can't figure it. The clutch shifts the gears fine, neutral, low, and high, so the clutch seems to be working. I flaiien the clutch to the floor, try to move the lever and it grinds. What were you thinking?

For some reason the PTO seems to still be moving, on the gear side? Try putting it in great to stop the gear side of the clutch from moving, then engage the pto.

You mean try to engage the pto without pushing in on the clutch pedal? Newbie showing question.

2 stage clutch? 1st stage operating normally. 2nd stage clutch plate stuck?

Yup, stuck 2nd stage. The tech adjusted the pedal slightly, popped the clutch, broke a shear pin on the pto shaft, but now unstuck and working fine. Thanks Spyder and all for the help. The second I mentioned 2 stage clutch I could see the light come on in the techs head. Thankfully it was an easy fix, more snow on the way tonight.

sorry saw you said shift gears.... There is a hook to keep the clutch engaged while it sits up that id recommend using if you have already had one stick... I use mine about all winter every time I put it up for the day on my 1540 massey... the day it don't break loose is a big pricey job.
