I have zip experience operating a backhoe. The backhoe installed is the Mahindra Max 26B which i understand is a new model. The Dealer's service department had trouble installing it because it is the first one they ever did.

Having said that, in trying it out for the first time yesterday, it seemed that the motions of the backhoe were extremely fast and quite violent. I decided it was my ham handed operation of the controls and/or too high ofg an operating speed for the engine.

Could that be the case? I am going out to try it again in a few moments after spendinhg the last two hours with operating manual.

Thanks in advance!

For a beginner, the controls and operation may be to fast, but as you get more experience, you will get better.

Reduce the engine rpm so a satisfactory speed/operation.

thanks it's much appreciated.

I have a 100 yard water line trench to uncover, repair a leak (if I find it) and then recover and only about two weeks to get it done so I am scrambling

When I first got my backhoe (3pt attachment), I ran rpms low enough to get the hang of it, then upped them as I learned. I was never felt the need to be at the 540rpm PTO speed, had all I needed without lugging down. Stay safe..

Also on the Max25's there is a valve right under the seat in the middle of the plate. That effects the hydraulics speed. Try moving that and see what it does.

If you know the path of the water line, use a steel rod and walk along and probe the ground. The really soft spot is where the leak is. If the leak is large enough or has been leaking for some time the top of the ground will be wet where the leak is.

The Max26B is basically the same as the MB63A it replaced, just with updated model names. They are trying to make the loader/backhoe names make more sense. The loader for the Max28 was a ML205, it will now be called a Max26L as it will go on the Max26.

I agree with the others, lower the RPMs for a bit and as you get used to the backhoe you will raise the rpms as you get handier with it. As for the hydraulic knob under the seat, that only controls the rate of descent of the three-points. I bet one day you will wish the backhoe was faster.

Well, took all the advice here (and read other, similar threads) and watch a couple of vids on Youtube, practiced a bunch and now I am up and running, THANKS!

That's great! I dug a couple of holes for the neighbors deck post, with my MAX 28 the other day. I just took my time. Like anything else the more you run something the better you get.

Too late to help this gentleman, but for future people with this question: Usually the complaint about too much speed on a backhoe refers to the lateral swing of the BH. The opposite of that motion is the 'return to dig' position. So you've scooped some dirt, swung it and emptied the bucket. Now you are returning to where you need to dig again. Here's a tip. Pull two levers at the same time. Obviously, less pull on the secondary motion is desired. You will be 'bleeding off' hydrolic pressure and hence, slowing things down. This is a high class problem!
