Maximum thread diameter of CAT 2 and CAT 3 top link

I need to make the top link of my 2550 backhoe adjustable as opposed to the current semi-fixed length. I need to retain the OEM ends and am contemplating cutting a section out of the 34" length hollow top link. My thoughts being to cut maybe 8" out of the tube and weld in the threaded portion of the CAT 1 or 2 top link, thus making it adjustable.

What I cannot find is the thread maximum diameter for these two top link sizes. The tube has an ID of 1.26 so I could potentially weld in the screw portions of the top length. I only need about 2" of OAL change via the adjustment.

Trying to visualize your idea. Not doing so well.

Whatever you design has to be very strong. Lot of pulling stress on it when using the hoe. I've saw pics of operators breaking the top link and being thrown over the controls and into the hole with the boom/bucket.

Fortunately this one has the sub frame and four bolts on the channels so it likely will not go far but what I want to do is to be able to remove any slop in it. Basically I am looking to extend the top link to remove any movement in the four mounting bolts. The original tube has somewhat elongated holes and the adjusting ability can stop free play.

I would suggest purchasing an adjustable top link of proper size and strength. I'm having trouble imagining a top link that is NOT screw adjustable. But I guess you must have one.

Should be able to buy an adjustable top link the length you need. Be careful how much load or play you shift to the top link. Common failure point of 3pt backhoes.

Consider larger mounting bolts?
