May I replace ISO 68 oil for tractor fluid

Hi to all of you. I have a 4,000 gallon water tanker truck use for dust control on unpaved roads and to irrigate plants also. Is is equiped with a Chelsea PTO directly connected to an allison tranny. This PTO supply oil to a Parker motor that rotates a 3 " in diameter inlet and outlet water pump. It came originally with ISO 68 hydraulic oil wich is stored in a 30 gallon reservoir.

My question is: May I substitue this ISO 68 Hydraulic oil for tractor Fluid without harming the PTO or the hydraulic motor?

I live in the tropic where ambient temperature is around 80 to 100 degrees farenheit.

First you need to look at the viscosity. Tractor oils range from an ISO 32-68 so likely it will be thinner than your ISO 68. ISO 46 would probably be fine, 32 might be getting too thin, depending on how hot the oil gets.

From an additive package standpoint, the tractor oil should be at least as good as regular ISO 68 for your application. For one thing, tractor oil is designed to handle water better. Both oils will have the same affect on the rubber and sealing components. And Parker sells a lot of off-road hydraulic components so there should be no problem there either.

Thanks a lot for that info. That's what I wanted to Know. By the way The Tractor fluid I am talking about is the Total Dynatrans MP Universal Tractor Fluid.

That oil is multiviscosity. At 104°F it is thinner than ISO 68, but at 212°F it is thicker than ISO 68. Better cold temp "pump-ability" and better high temp protection. Sounds like a good substitute to me.
