Hello,

I also posted in snow removal. I bought a McKee which i do believe is actually a 7ft John Deere and have fixed it all up. Now I am confused how to hook the PTO shaft to the implement. It is my first implement. The PTO shaft at the implement end has a key way and the connection on the blower has a key way and what looks like a shear bolt that has sheared and stuck in the hole. The two key ways seem to be different sizes. There is also a small bolt on PTO knuckle that does not line up with the key way. I have included pictures. Any help appreciated. THX.

Double posting is not acceptable forum etiquette. It results in confusion as people respond to different posts in different threads.

Nice way to welcome a relatively new member. Complain about a rookie mistake, offer no advice or help and don't even say "welcome to tbn" good job.

First off, welcome to our site and forum. The very first picture in your post. Shows the pto shaft and yoke with what looks like a spring loaded knob. The piece with the spring loaded knob should go to the tractor. The other end of the shaft should go to you blower. It should have holes in it for a shear pin. Make sure you use a 'soft' bolt, say grade 2 bolt for your sure pin. If you use a 'hard' bolt, say a grade 8 bolt you run the risk of damaging you equipment should there be a problem. A hard bolt will not shear/break like a soft bolt thus damaging your equipment. Hope this helps and welcome to our site.

Welcome to the forum.

Another thing to mention, is that your JD blower is actually a McKee (you had it backwards). McKee made blowers for various different companies, and those companies just painted the blower their colors. I've got a 6' McKee. If it stops pouring rain here I'll try to snap some pics of my PTO shaft for you. I'll leave you a with a picture of mine:

Also welcome to the forum.

The end shown in the first photo is the end that attaches to the snow blower. It slides onto the snowblower stub shaft and is prevented from slipping on that shaft by the key . The bolt that is sheared off is not a shear bolt, it is meant to prevent the pto shaft from slipping off of the blower stub shaft. It likely fatigued and broke because the pto shaft is constantly moving back and forth due to there being a tiny amount of play even with the bolt inserted and the nut tightened. This play is supposed to be prevented by tightening the square headed set screw shown in the fist pic. Hope this helps.
