So we get 4" of wet snow on Wednesday, so off we go to clear the driveway. Up till now I have been constantly adjusting the front snowblower hight to the driveway, got pertty good at it but it required attention. Then I thought "wonder if the float position would help"? Set it to float, and behold, no more adjusting. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Live and learn.
Only problem was the heavy wet snow kept clogging the discharge chute, had to keep cleaning it out. think I'll try the Pam spray trick and see if that helps. Any other ideas? Joe

Definitely give the Pam a try. Is your snowblower a 2 stage?

I remember way back when my dad had a single stage on his Jacobsen, and cursed it almost every snowstorm - he swore his next snowblower would be a 2 stage - those single stage blowers clog up fast with that heavy, wet CT snow.

Yes, it is a two stage. The temps had gotten to the high 40's adding to an already saturated snow pack. When you picked it up in your hand the water ran right out. Still havn't had to shift into 4wd yet to keep going /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
The weight box keeps lowering the 3ph as I work so it has to be raised up again. Any cure for this /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifJoe

"Limit chains" hung from the area where the top link mounts to the tractor down to the bottom links. Thanks to this forum, I use these to control the height of my Bush Hog. I like using caribeaners to attach the chains cuz they're easy on-and-off.

Around here, the single stage is preferred for the slush. I have neither, so only can go by others' comments. But a good friend and neighbor has a Deere single, and says it just doesn't clog up with wet snow and slush. Maybe it's the Wisconsin wet snow, and not the Eastern variety. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gifWhat brand is your blower ? Did you get cab ? Mine is single stage 50" CaseIH and only plugged chute once in heavy wet snow like you say water was running out of. I run rpm full tilt like manual for blower says - 3000 . I don`t have fel and valve dealer installed to lift blower doesn`t have float but I sure wished it did .

Mine is a Case two stage, bought it w/ the DX. My dealer told me it's make in Canada, same as most of them. I have always used an Airens two stage walk behind to do our old driveway and went w/ the same discharge setup. No cab /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif just waterproof outerware and a dose of "I'm a real manly man" to my wife /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. We typically do not have this wet heavy snow in these parts so up till now it's been no problem. I did run at 3k rpm as called for but it just packed up solid in the discharge chute. I might try removing the guard grill from the front of the chute to see if that allows better throw.
I will try the chain limiters in the 3ph this weekend to see how that works.
If it gets real cold out I'll get out my Gerbings heated jacket liner and plug it into the accesory plug and adjust the thermostat /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Joe,

Before you rig up chains on your 3ph, reach down and turn the round knob under the front of the seat with the turtle and the rabbit on it. With the 3ph in the full up position, turn the knob all the way towards the turtle (clockwise while sitting on the seat) till it stops. That prevents the 3ph from bleeding out, and you can't lower the 3ph. When you want to drop the 3ph, just rotate the knob back the opposite way, but only slightly so you can control the speed of drop of the 3ph. I pretty much only use the knob 1/4 turn at that end - the other 3 or so turns back towards the rabbit don't seem to do much, other than drop the 3ph like there's nothing holding it back.

In my opinion a lift should not lower itself. Is the control lever slipping to the lower position? Does your tractor have position control? If so, it should raise itself to the selected position. My Case-IH 385 will hold a heavy backhoe all day with the engine off without dropping. If the tractor is still in warranty I'd get it checked out.

Sorry, but you're wrong when it comes to the smaller machines - every one and every brand has some degree of hyd bleed off - even 2 different JD110 TLB's I've recently used.

Case put the knob in front of the seat on the DX24E, that I referred to in my previous post, to address the issue - you can stop the bleed off whenever you want or need to with the twist of a knob, and then it'll stay up for days while parked.
