Well, I'm never going to try this. I was just curious.

To be honest, I really did think I'd hear accolades that Jet fuel would be a fantastic fuel to use, but for the expense.

I'm admittedly a bit surprised to learn it might not be.

I guess things aren't parallel in the world of aviation gas / domestic gas and jet fuel / domestic diesel.

I used to use aviation gas for my high strung dirt bikes (Yamaha YZ 465 and Maico 490)

It was with the YZ that I first used aviation fuel and discovered the engine would pull cleaner & longer than with the highest premium I could buy at the pump.

I figured jet fuel would be similar in concept to diesel.

Ya, diesel is different than gasoline.

The more refined it is, typically the less BTUs you get from it, less power, not more.

Also, the more refined it is, the less lubricity it has, so your pump and sso forth needs to be built for the lubricity of the fuel you have - or an additive put in to bring the lubricity back to where you need it.

So, jet fuel is a great additive for older engines in cold weather to act as a anti-gel.

But in summer it will give you less power, hotter engine, and likely wear out your pump more rapidly - poerhaps much more rapidly.

Some of the best (most efficient...) diesel fuel is the stuff they use in the big ships. It's not refined much at all, basically tar, have to heat it close to 200 degrees just to get it to run out of the tank. You'd think it was junk, but for the cost most energy per dollar for needing big power.

Would take some modifications to work on a subcompact tho! :)

Jet fuel packs more BTUs per pound than motor diesel. That is the main objective when it is made. So if you put jet fuel in your tractor it will use proportionally less fuel.
