Something that some may find fascinating. Historical mechanical sciences reference for farm implements (generally, horse or hand powered): http://www.history.rochester.edu/appleton/a/agmac-m.html. It seems that our forefathers may have had a bit more fun, though. Note under "Implements for clearing, breaking Ground, etc.", "Stump-Pullers" the statement "Explosives are frequently employed to blow the stump to pieces." And all we get to do is blast crickets with a shotgun /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. It's also fascinating what technology has not improved upon. The "Implements for the Cultivation of the Plant" haven't changed much.

The "APPLETONS' CYCLOPEDIA OF APPLIED MECHANICS" was published 1880, revised in 1890 (don't know which version is shown).
