Does anyone have any experience or recommendations on which one to use? I'm looking for one for my mom. preferably, I'd like it to be one that's portable, so she could use in Massachusetts and Texas. I would need one that does not use a land-line, we only have cells at both locations.

There's been a thread on that recently with a lot of comparisons. Have you tried searching using the google bar?

i'll find out who we use for my MIL

something happened that set off her MA alarm and the people couldn't make contact with her, and got right on calling the alternate #'s in the list. when the 1st alternate didn't answer ( neighbor ).. they automatically called emergency services. I was #3 on the list since i live in another city.

All turned out ok.. but those alert people didn't give up. they kept calling till it was confirmed my MIL was ok and found. I will deffinately recomend them.. as soon as i get the name from the wife. :)

thanks Soundguy. I seem to recall a recent thread on the subject, so I'll do a search. I've been so freaking busy lately, that I don't know what end is up anymore.

We used Lifeline for my mother and later for my brother in law. It works as promised in the commercials; I found it to be priceless as you can allow an infirm elderly person to live in their familiar surroundings. The price was bearable, the employees were good, and it was always good to get a false alarm rather than find grandma laying at the bottom of the stairs. Sometimes when nobody answered, it would be the first responders who found her at the kitchen table drinking coffee unaware that she had set off the alarm taking it off before gardening or whatever.
It will be hard to find one that works w/o a landline, the technology is similar to burglar alarms. Many areas offer a basic lower priced landline for the elderly. My daughter has an inexpensive landline tacked onto her cable system just to work her alarm system. Only incoming calls it gets are telemarketers.
