I came into a unique situation where I was able to buy a Mega roll of perforated black pvc pipe. Anyways, its not a new nice tight roll of pipe. There are a couple loose ends but regardless its prolly 2k-3K feet of pipe. Dimensionally, we are talking about 7-8' in diameter and roughly 9' high.

So my problem is, I can pick it up and move it, but i need to be able to get a few hundred feet off at a time as i'm putting in drainage around my property. Its a little bit to tall to just stand beside it and lift layers off over the top, not to mention that its like fighting a pissed off octopus. I can't just lay it over and push it to unroll it because the roll will just come apart one the ropes are cut. I don't have one of the conveinant trailers that stabs the roll and rotates to unwind it. I think this would be my best option, but i dont want this to be my only option incase I can't borrow one.

SUMMARY:Big roll of pipe needs unrolled
ANY IDEAS?

Could you make a "spool" for it out of 2 sheets of plywood and some long pieces of allthread? Then you could stick a pipe through it and unroll it instead of making it angry! Ha

can you make a pallet box to hold it I am thinking something that looks like a compost bin. You may be able to then knock it over in there and lay a piece of plywood on top and then cut the ropes and pull out what you need.

Or, if there are any directional boring contractors around close, they usually have several empty conduit reels laying around. I have one near me, and gives me all of his empty reels, unless the scrappers beat me to them.

The sides unbolt, so it wouldn't be that hard to remove one side, and maybe wrestle the roll onto it. Might be some work involved, but it sounds like it may beat the alternative...!!

Large rolls of field tile like this are usually tied together at every second row in the roll. So if you cut every string you see, only the first two layers will be loose.

Lots of luck to you. Maybe it would be a little easier if the roll was on a hay rack. Then you could unwind some of it and then pull the hay rack forward, dragging the tile to get it to lay flat on the ground.

Another option would be to purchase a 10-20 foot length shechedule 12-16 80 PVC and a pair of Greenlee cable reel stands as you have a huge roll of pipe to mess with.

I amm usure if you could rent a pair of cable reel stands for a long period; but you could always sell them on flea bay or craggels list when you are done with them.

The cable reel stands are adjustable to allow you to raise them up to let the roll clear the ground, you just have to be careful that you do not yank the tubing too hard and have it fall off.

The stands are very well built and you could make a wooden skid to mount them on and add more stability to the whole thing to prevent a tip over if the wind acts up.

ANother option woud be to make a spool holder-

parts list

4 12 PVC inch elbows

9 10 foot long 12 id inch pipe lengths

2 sheets of 3/4 inch PT plywood

8 8-foot PT 4 by 4's

8 foot of threaded rod-

nylock nuts and washers to fit the threaded rod

to pass through the 4by 4's on one side to allow you to attach a pair of shackles to use rope to pull it with your tractor or truck or what ever you will use.

Nail or screw and glue the pressure treated plywood to the 8 4 by 4's to make a box frame to prevent it from twisting when you drag it. be sure to cut the 4 by 4's to make cripple studs of some of them to strengthen the skid and then it prevents it from twisting when you drag it.

1 package of 12 inch weather and sunlight resistant black tie wraps

glue the each of elbows to two pipe lengths to each elbow

Drill holes wide enough in the plywood to permit the straps to pass around each pipe and through the plywood and connect the straps together to hold the elbows and pipe lengths down.

You should use a ninth piece of the PVC in the center of the four uprights to create a center pipe within the four elbows to add strength to the stack and prevent them from folding in on each other

After you have the plywood and PVC pipe strapped together with the center pipe between the 4 elbows you can slide the pipe through the center of the tubing bore and then push it back over and simply drag the pipe skid wherever you need it.

The PVC pipe will let you spool out the tubing as ahole on the spool with little if any friction pulling it with a tractor or utv etc.

Well i didn't look at it extremely closely, i was a little to worn out after I got it loaded to care at the moment. I am praying that only the outside two laps are loose but I'm thinking useing a couple pieces of allthreat and making a spool for it would be my best option. I guess I really need to beg and plead and see if I can get one of those fancy trailers made for unrolling that large of a roll. Thanks for the Ideas fellas.
