Please take a few moments on Memorial Day to thank the people that protected our great nation & gave us the freedom we all enjoy.

Do more than bow your head on Memorial Day, take part

Despite the various criticisms, the United States accomplished some very critical objectives during the fight in Vietnam. Among them, and most importantly, we helped stem the tide and spread of communism in that region, which ultimately led to the fall of the Soviet Union and the advance of freedom and democracy, which is felt around the world today.

Retired Air Force General and flying ace - Do more than bow your head on Memorial Day, take part | Fox News

Brigadier General R. Steve Ritchie is a member of the American Veterans Center痴 Advisory Board. He痴 the only Air Force 殿ce pilot of the air war in Vietnam. A veteran of more than 800 combat hours in the F-4 Phantom during 339 missions over Southeast Asia, Ritchie is the only American pilot to down five MiG-21s, the most sophisticated fighters in the North Vietnamese fleet. By the time he left active duty in 1974, Ritchie had been awarded the Air Force Cross, four Silver Stars, 10 Distinguished Flying Crosses and 25 Air Medals - making him the 30th most highly decorated individual in United States military history.

Thank you to those that have served. Also, a special thank you to those that are serving. And a VERY SPECIAL thank you to those that have fallen. You will NEVER be forgotten.

I'm thankful every day as I hoist the flag and say some prayers for Known and Unknown who put it on the line for us.

Memorial day, every year I get it off, during the day always keep in mind the fallen soldiers. It's a good weekend to watch a war movie, just watched the one about the USS Indianapolis, did some research on it, come to find out, as usual some higher-up's/officers really dropped the ball on this disaster, IMO no need of it, another perfect example how the military low rank people are treated as expendable. It's one thing if military person voluntears, another if ordered to do an assignment like the Navy crew did on this mission.

If sending military personnel on a dangerous mission, give them the strongest support possible, like in this movie, the high ranking officers should of kept better tracking on where that ship was, in the end the US government just blamed the disaster on the captain, in all this was a very good movie, and it's on instant Netflex now.

The ultimate insult in that situation was presenting the Japanese sub commander, Mochitsura Hashimoto that sank the Indy as a witness for the prosecution at McVay's court martial. It was truly disgraceful on the part of the Navy but was corrected many years later. Too many years later.
Kinda like the disgraceful conduct displayed by many Americans toward vets returning from Vietnam. Something I will never forgive them for and apparently we haven't learned any better from what I see on what passes for the news these days. A lot of that sort of thing could be avoided if we had universal mandatory subscription. Many countries have it and so should we. It wouldn't hurt many of today's snowflakes to develop a little backbone earlier on and get some skin in the game. Serve your country first, then you can vote and have a say.
