Out of curiosity, why is the first unit rated at 8HP when it's powered by the PTO? Is it 8HP from the PTO power? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I think that means it requires at least 8hp to work properly.

Yes, I know, but I wasn't asking about that.

If you must know the reasons, it's too big for me to store, too heavy for me to move around easily, doesn't have a shredder, and costs $200 extra for all those difficiencies. Put differently, it just doesn't match my needs. Which is why I asked about the Merry Mac which appears to meet my needs perfectly, but I don't have a way to determine it's quality since none of the local Mackassic retail outlets carry PTO models.

Tommy I looked at the Jinma chipper and I don't see the usual safety bars in the rear view. Does it have something to stop the machine if some one gets caught up in a limb?. I'd love to buy a chipper for under 2k, but /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Found this description on another site. I don't get the 8HP.

EDIT: Only 3 1/2" chipping isn't much for that amount of money. At least the Jinma is supposed to do 6", but some have said 6" hardwood is tough to do. John

I figure I'm happy to burn anything over 3". This is just for tree limbs which fall and for bush trimmings (albeit large ones). I have a huge pile in my back yard now and estimates came in at $300 to remove it (can't burn and no where to bury). I don't want a big machine, and I don't want another engine, and I don't want to spend $250 every six months to rent a chipper/shredder or pay someone to get rid of it. It does seem like a lot of money, which is why I was hoping someone had experience with this model, but it really does fit my needs very well.

Cliff, talk to your tractor dealer and see if he would let you demo a chipper/shredder at your home. You don't have to deceive him in any way, just tell him you need to see what it will do, and if you like it, maybe you'll buy it. The only one I've used was AT my dealer's, a Woods model that didn't chip hardwoods so well, but would shred the heck out of almost anything put into it. It is on sale for around $2,000 so I opted out. John

Hi Cliff
Just wanted to put my 2 cents in. Here's my 6" jinma (Chinese) chipper. It's got about 20 + hours on it, doing good so far. I burn wood, and only run 2" limbs or so through it.
