Just got done watching a Morton building tape. Pretty impressive!!!!! Of course almost all of the buildings were in the mid-west. So here's my question. Most of the farmers here just buy metal and put it up. I've looked in phonebooks etc. for people who deal in metal structures and no luck. So I guess what I need is some other brand names for metal buildings that are located in the or around Vt. so I can expand my search. Boy you could spend alot of money in a hurry watching that tape. Surprisingly my wife watched it to and wasn't to shocked by what she saw. She especially like the door remote, colors and hearing thats were alot of boys spend there time. Could be she's getting around to something./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Alan,
There are only a handful of companies that deal with them strictly. Even then they usually will have contracts with local construction crews. If you are looking to save some dollars I would find a good local construction company that does metal buildings. Ask around and find out who are good crews in your area. If you want to go the national name then look also at Cleary and Wick buildings. Go to your local lumbar place or a national chain like Menards, and they will be able to give you a quote on the building and also recommend guys in the area that can put it up for you. Do a search on "pole barns" and you'll get alot of info. that way as well.

Al,

I live in Connecticut and recently built a 34x48x10 pole type building w/ metal siding. I purchased a kit from Carter Lumber in PA and had it shipped all the way to CT. It was easy to put up and infinitely cheaper that morton. I've found that, in southern New England anyways, that demand for these Ag type buildings is relatively low and the only builders around are Morton and Lester. Both are expensive in this area. A lot of places sell metal siding and trim but don't really have any knowledge pole type contruction. That is why I bought from that lumber yard in PA. They figured out all the siding, hardware for sliding doors, and gave me a simple set of plans and off I went. The shell of my building cost about 1/4 the price I got from Lester (including $400 shipping from PA). I think mine came out as nice as any Morton building and I would do it this way again in a second.

Steve,

What did you pay for the kit, if you don't mind my asking? I'm considering a building about that size myself.

Thanks,

How about posting a picture of you building? I am sure you are proud of it/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. So let the rest of us be envious/w3tcompact/icons/love.gif.

Chris,

It was about 8k with 1' overhangs all around, two double sliders, and 1 entry door. Check out Carter's ad in Lancaster farming for more details. There are also a lot of pole barn builders in PA and their prices are real good, it almost doesn't pay to do it yourself down there. Most of them have adds in LF too.

I'll try and dig up some pictures of the barn going up and get them up soon.

We build almost exclusively in steel for sheds around our parts here.

Steel framing and sheeting. (Steel boxes)

I get scared when I hear what you guys pay for sheds. Seems you don't have the kit process sorted out yet.

My shed worked out at $143/m2 = approx $6.50 US per square foot.

A man's gotta have a shed /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Refer attached.

Cheers

njrqs,
Was that built or did you build it yourself? Not built the ones I have bought as a kit avg. only about $2.50 a square foot.

That price was supplied, delivered, erected and concrete slab. Also included all the roller doors, windows, sliding door and insulation. Slab is also 6" thick under the office end.

I am a building cost estimator and find it interesting looking at costs over there.

Cheers
