That’s the thing, if price how much I save on my heating bill, it’s probably not worth spending any more to cover the wood. The metal roofing is free.

When we used firewood I had a shed that would hold EXACTLY six full cords. Under cover and all was up off the ground on pallets.

It was 100% pine. The only advantage I ever saw - a whole lot easier to get at in the winter.

Up on pallets will save the bottom row. Bottom row will suck moisture up out of the ground and rot. Plus if it gets really cold - bottom row will freeze to the ground and bring a lot of dirt into the house.

In my area, discarded old tin roofing is most common firewood cover.
Another source is the side walls from above ground pools that never receive a new liner.

Plastic tarps just have a much too short a lifespan, sun burns them up in a short time.

Tar paper lasts a year or two, conforms to the stack profile and only needs a piece of firewood here and there to keep it from blowing away.
