metal shaving sound after...

replacing transmission oil in my BX2200. I have about 500 hours. It has been changed every year for 3 years, since I bought it. I put a new front loader on it a year ago (since the last time I changed it). I found enough shavings to fill up a milk cap. I have put about 20 hrs on it since I changed the oil. Thinking about draining it again and checking for more shavings? Should i be worried????

That sounds like allot to be, normally the most shavings are found during the intial changes. This is typically burrs that where not removed and foreign materal that was introduced during assembly. To have continued shavings after 500 hrs would be a concern for me particularly in those amounts.

It could be shavings from the milling in the loader control valve you installed in the last year. I wouldn't be worried unless you got more shavings after the next cleaning. I had a lot on my first change on my first BX2200, enough that it sounds like the amount you are describing. Had that tractor for som 700 hours, never an issue. Strangely enough, my BX2350 was just about clean as a whistle on her first change....just a little bit of what looked like gasket compound was all.

In short, don't worry about it, get another change behind you and see then if there are still shavings....

Charlie has a point, if it seems to be funtioning fine, I would continue use with additional and periodic checks on the screen assembly along with changes. It may be the control valve.

If you have changed the fluid that many times, the vast majority of cuttings should have been flushed out before now. That is a lot of chips for that many hours and fluid changes. If I was you I would change the fluid again to make sure that you don't have something being damaged.

I agree with jerry. Also , save the shavings and show them to a Kubota tecnician, and it will help.

That sounds like a good pile of iron. I would put a magnetic drain plug in to hold the shavings from circulating and check it often.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your comments. I got an early start mowing this morning and heard a noise I did not like. WHen I turn the wheels all the way (either way) and begin moving I hear a Click, click, click, click,click. It only does this when I have the wheel cut all the way and then moving. Scared me enough to stop immediately. I can't detrermine if it is transmission of somethin on the front end rubbing. That is the area it is coming from. Any comments?

I am going to take a closer look tonight. I have my Dad coming over. He knows much more. But I am thinking about taking into the dealer to take a peek.

that sounds like a U-joint somewhere, probably front axle

If its comming from the transmission I would guess a chipped spider gear in the diff. If it is in the front it would not be related to the shavings you got out of the trans but could also be spider gears in the front . Either way I wouldn't run it til ya figure it out. Gear parts always seem to tear something else up sooner or later.
