If a metric bolt has 8.8 printed on it , is it about equal in strength to a grade 8 bolt?
Thanks.

Ok, thanks. Where would be a good source to get the 10.9?

Mark,

Some of the bigger True Value and Ace hardware stores stock Hillman fasteners that usually include hardened metric bolts. Pricey to buy many but not too bad to purchase a few at a time.

BTW Aaron has an excellent article titled "Metric Bolt Secrets" that define the numbers and strengths on their website address above the Yanmar section.

If you have a TSC near you, they have a good selection of Metric bolts.

our local true value has a huge metric bolt section, but i dont think they have the higher grades of metric bolts, i would check with an industrial supplier like fastenal etc, or easiest would be to order them from MSC or Mcmasterr Carr, either one will arrive the next day, and both take credit cards.

Mark,

A metric 8.8 is equivalent to a Fractional Grade 5 (not Grade 2). A metric 10.9 is equivalent to a Fractional Grade 8.

Comparison chart can be found in the reference pages of BoltDepot.com Click Here

Metric 8.8 is equal in strength to grade 5 bolt. Metric 10.9 is equal in strength to grade 8. hope this helps.

If you look in the Phone book under "FASTNERS" there are places that just sell bolts and screws exclusively. I was amazed when I walked how much they had in different grades.
They had a $3 minimum.
