I am looking at a MF 1035 with 895 hrs on it. Tractor is in good shape. The tractor has turf tires on it. I told him i would think about it if it had ag tires. He said that's what everybody says. He is looking into getting new tires to fit the rims. He is asking $6500 the way it is (turf tires). Does this sound like a good price?? Has anybody had any experience with this tractor? Any advice would be apprecieated.

Thanks

There were problems with both the engine and the front end [4wd] . with 800+ hours on it I doubt the engine will be a problem as the bad ones died before the 300 hr. mark. Front end is a different matter, my brother is on his second rebuild at about 1400 hrs. His tractor has ag tires and I have always thought there was too much "lead" (front tires pulling too fast) and that might have caused the damage. Turf tires may not have this problem. Can't comment on the price but no dealer will take my brother's in trade.

I bought a 1035 from an orange dealer. I paid 8500 & that included the loader and a 6' Ranken blade for the back. I am the second owner and have had it for about a year and a half and so far so good. I did have the axle reducer gear break off a couple of teeth and had to find another to replace it. That wasn't as hard as the price. New was around 800 ordered through the local MF dealer but was lucky to find it at a salvage yard for 400. I also found out that the frnt axle design was changed to an improved heavier gear after a couple of its earlier production years with problems. So that is "upgraded". The toyosha diesel engine has about 1115 hrs on it and still runs great. A little smoke but not much. I think from my experience with this machine that it is pretty much like most. The fact that toyosha is no longer in business the parts availability is something to be considered. I have heard that a Perkins can be put in its place. I hope I don't have to find out first hand but if someone knows if that's true it would be nice to know. Like all tractors if you do the maintenance they will last for a while. Lastly I believe Massey Ferguson has made better tractors than that series of their line but at the same time it really isn't a MF. It is very similar to all the other imports built to MF design. I would say it is under rated. I have owned several similar JD's and used quite a few different Orange ones not making me an expert but I think the Massey is built a little cheaper but works just the same. I hope my experience with this machine has helped.
